TWRP or any other custom recovery is a custom recovery that comes with many advantages that are not available with stock recovery. Flashing TWRP is one of the first steps required to flash a custom Rom. Also depending on your device, you may have to first install TWRP before rooting.
On this post, we are going to show you how to flash TWRP on MediaTek(MTK) Androids using Sp Flash Tool. You can as well flash TWRP or other types of Custom recovery like CWM or Philz Recovery via fastboot.
So, if you will like to install a Custom Rom on your MTK Android device, then this article should be a starting point. With TWRP installed, rooting and flashing of Custom roms becomes very easy.
What is TWRP?
TWRP stands for Team Win Recovery Project which is a recovery that helps facilitate the flashing of custom ROMs and tweaks for android user. Installing TWRP on your Android devices offers a whole lot of advantages like; flashing Super SU or Magisk for root as well as installing Custom ROMs, Patches, MODs and more.

Requirements to flash TWRP with SP Flash tool
Flashing TWRP with SP flash tool is just like flashing a stock rom. But the difference here is we are flashing just a selected partition. As you may all know, when flashing MTK Android with SP Flash tool using the "Download"(selecting "Format all + download" will entail you flash the whole stock rom) option, you can choose what partition to flash.

So, to flash the TWRP which is the recovery partition, the following will be required;
- Android MTK USBVCOM drivers
- A Computer
- Scatter file for the MTK Android device(You can get from the stock rom or from the twrp if it came with)
- And of course SP flash tool

- You will have to rename the TWRP img file to "recovery".
Flashing TWRP with sp flash tool: All steps
Once you have all want is required, proceed thus;
- Install Android MTK drivers,
- Extract the sp flash tool you downloaded and launch,
- Once it open, click on the "choose" on scatter-loading file to load the scatter file from the folder where the TWRP image is found.
- When it loads, verify that the recovery is checked then hit the download button.
- Power of your device and connect to the computer via USB. Wait for the flashing to complete.

- If after loading the scatter, the recovery is not checked, check it then double-click on the location and select the file manually from the saved location

As regards the scatter file for your Android device, if the twrp does not come with, remember you can always get it from the stock firmware.
Also, Hovatek Forum usually provides their firmware files in parts(components) so you can easily get the scatter file there.
Flashing the wrong twrp will brick your Android and will require you to flashback to stock firmware. So, consider taking a backup before flashing.
